Tanning

We are excited to be able to offer a fast turn-around on furs. We have an in-house tanner and can process several furs at a time. Below you will find a table with a basic price list. If you have any questions, contact us and we can help you out.
Dry tanning will make your animal flexible and pliable, but it is not a garment tan. It will not be super soft and supple.
Soft tanning is garment quality and will be a soft, supple leather that is perfect for the production of garments and crafts.
Please be aware that it is common for fur bearers to loose fur on their ears and belly if not skinned cooled immediately. We do our best to prevent fur slippage, but sometimes it is unavoidable. The best thing you can do is get your animal in the freezer as soon as you possibly can.

FAQ

What is dry tan?
This tan is ideal for wallhanger and rug work.

After the tanning process is complete, they are dried and oiled. The hides are then put in a tumbler, with sawdust or corncob grit and tumbled. This is how the hides are ‘broken’ and made pliable.

What is a garment tan?
A “Garment” tan is typically a soft tan that is shaved for garment use (ie no lipskin, eyelids, ears not turned, no feet, etc) Brighteners may also be used on the fur. This tan is used for making garments, crafts, and thows.

Is dry tan not the same as dry preservatives?
NO, dry tanned is a true chemical tan that has been done at a tannery. A dry preservative is not a tan, but more of a “stabilizer”.

Can you skin my animal for me?
Yes, absolutely.

What is the turnaround time on furs?
